The Executive Director is responsible for shaping the ABA’s operational vision and culture, leading and developing staff and organizational capabilities, and ensuring that all decisions policies and programs approved by the ABA Board of Directors are implemented. Successful candidates will have extensive leadership experience within a similar sized or larger organization.

This position is responsible for all psychometric activities related to the accurate and timely scoring and reporting of American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) examinations, including the In-Training Examinations, the BASIC & ADVANCED Examinations, the Part 1 Examination, and the annual subspecialty examinations for Critical Care Medicine, Pain Medicine, Pediatric Anesthesiology, Hospice & Palliative Medicine and Sleep Medicine. This position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, in-depth knowledge of ABA policies and procedures, extreme accuracy and strict attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills. This position requires working with multiple other departments within the ABA as well as working with external vendors, including but not limited to our test delivery vendor and others. This position also works closely with the test development department to ensure that examinations are built with high validity, reliability, and defensibility and supports the research activities of the Research Committee.

Standardized Patient (ongoing)

The Standardized Patient (SP) will portray medical case scenarios for assessment purposes as part of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). After thorough training and rehearsal, the scenarios will require the SP to respond to basic medical history questions and undergo basic physical examinations in simulated health encounters with ABA candidates. SPs will accurately and consistently portray specific types of patients, knowing the history of their present illness, past medical history, physical exam results as well as their body language and their emotional and personality characteristics. As part of a high stakes examination, SPs must effectively learn and portray the case to ensure exam standardization and reliability.
