Perform psychometric work associated with The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)’s assessment programs, as well as a variety of research projects that are of interest to the ABA. The ABA’s assessment programs include its initial and subspecialty certification examinations and longitudinal assessment for Maintenance of Certification program. Involved in scoring and producing reports for all ABA examinations. Utilize educational measurement theory, psychometric methods and their applications including IRT software, equating software, and other key psychometric packages. Utilize quantitative methodologies, statistical analysis, and computer programming. Perform scoring and producing of performance reports for candidates and programs, and collecting, organizing, and analyzing data for research projects. Write up psychometric and research reports.

Standardized Patient (ongoing)

The Standardized Patient (SP) will portray medical case scenarios for assessment purposes as part of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). After thorough training and rehearsal, the scenarios will require the SP to respond to basic medical history questions and undergo basic physical examinations in simulated health encounters with ABA candidates. SPs will accurately and consistently portray specific types of patients, knowing the history of their present illness, past medical history, physical exam results as well as their body language and their emotional and personality characteristics. As part of a high stakes examination, SPs must effectively learn and portray the case to ensure exam standardization and reliability.
