Candidates who complete their residency training before June 30, 2016 will take the traditional Part 1 (Written) Examination and the Part 2 (Oral) Examination. The Part 1 Examination is offered to candidates after they graduate from residency training. The Part 2 Examination is administered several times each year at the new ABA Assessment Center in Raleigh, N.C. Even though the exams are offered multiple times throughout each year, candidates may only register for one Part 2 Examination per year.

Candidates who finished their residency training prior to Jan. 1, 2012 have until Jan. 1, 2019 to complete all certification requirements. Candidates who finish their residency training on or after Jan. 1, 2012 have seven years from the last day of their residency graduation year to complete all certification requirements.
