Anesthesiology
Primary certification in Anesthesiology is available to individuals not yet certified by the ABA or who are not currently a candidate in the ABA examination system. READ MORE >>
The American Board of Anesthesiology is replacing its Recertification in Anesthesiology program with the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) program. Currently either program is available to ABA diplomates who were certified prior to January 1, 2000. The Recertification in Anesthesiology program will close in 2009.
The ABA issued diplomates certified on or after January 1, 2000 a certificate that is valid for 10 years. Diplomates with a time-limited certificate must satisfactorily complete Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA) before their time-limited certificate expires to maintain diplomate status in the specialty. The Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) program is available to all ABA diplomates, whether or not their initial certification is time-limited. MOCA® is a ten-year program, and diplomates with a time-limited certificate must complete the program before their current certification expires in order to maintain their diplomate status. Critical Care Medicine
Available for Anesthesiologists holding primary certificates in Anesthesiology. Part 2 examination candidates may provisionally apply for certification in Critical Care Medicine. READ MORE >>

Hospice & Palliative Medicine
Initial Certification
Available for Anesthesiologists holding primary certificates in Anesthesiology. Part 2 examination candidates may provisionally apply for certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The next examination is scheduled in the year 2010.
