MOCA^® Requirements Waived for 2020

The ABA recognizes the strains under which our physicians are practicing and wants them to prioritize their time to serve the immediate needs of their practice, their families, and themselves. If a diplomate feels that they cannot meet MOCA requirements because of the COVID-19 pandemic, then the ABA will waive those requirements for the remainder of 2020.

Here’s what this means:

• There’s no need to inform the Board if requirements need to be waived.
• Diplomates’ certification will NOT be adversely impacted if they cannot complete MOCA requirements in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• We strongly encourage diplomates to continue participating in MOCA, like answering MOCA Minute questions, should it prove supportive to their current practice needs. Diplomates who continue to participate in MOCA will receive credit.
• We have already begun to add COVID-19 questions to MOCA Minute and are working to rapidly add more questions that speak to the unique needs of this pandemic. As with all MOCA Minute questions, the new COVID-19 related items include links to learning resources that physicians may find useful.

The ABA is working to operationalize this decision and will communicate further details as soon as possible. We remain fully operational and committed to supporting the needs of our diplomates and candidates during this unprecedented time.
