ABA Selects New Executive Director
Michele S. Pore, M.B.A., appointed as Executive Director, Administrative Affairs
Raleigh, N.C. (July 29, 2020) – Following a national search, the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michele S. Pore, M.B.A., to the role of Executive Director, Administrative Affairs, to lead the staff of the nation’s certifying board for anesthesiologists. Ms. Pore brings to this position nearly 20 years of nonprofit and corporate leadership experience. Most recently, she served as the ABA’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.
“Michele Pore has played a pivotal role in developing the Board’s physician engagement strategy during one of the most transformative periods in our history,” said David O. Warner, M.D., ABA Secretary. “I am confident she will continue to support our strategic vision and build upon our strong foundation for innovation as she assumes the EDAA role.”
Ms. Pore joined the ABA in 2014 as its first marketing and communications leader. Under her direction, the ABA’s communications capabilities expanded significantly, and its diplomate outreach and engagement flourished. She developed the organization’s first strategic marketing plan and launched a bevy of bi-directional communications channels, including the organization’s first social media platforms and a blog. Ms. Pore also effectively cultivated external stakeholder relationships and served as the Board’s brand ambassador to advance its mission and culture and deliver on key organizational objectives.
Prior to joining the ABA, Ms. Pore served in multiple leadership roles with increasing responsibility at Kaplan, Inc., a global education services company. She also served as a public affairs leader for Fordham University. Ms. Pore began her career as a newspaper reporter in North Carolina. She earned her Bachelor of Science in newspaper journalism from Syracuse University, her Master of Business Administration from Fordham University and a certification in nonprofit leadership from Duke University.
She is a New York native and lives in Apex, N.C., with her husband, Damont, and their three children.
Ms. Pore fills the post vacated by Mary E. Post, M.B.A., C.A.E., who left the ABA earlier this year to accept the position of Chief Executive Officer at the American Academy of Neurology.
