The ABA Welcomes New Directors to the Board

The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is pleased to announce the elections of Stephanie B. Jones, M.D., and Hoda Badr, Ph.D., to our Board of Directors. Dr. Jones will officially begin her term as diplomate director following the fall 2022 board meeting in early October. Dr. Badr will begin her tenure as public member director after the fall 2023 board meeting.

Stephanie B. Jones, M.D., serves as chair for the Department of Anesthesiology and Professor of Anesthesiology at Albany Medical College. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Cornell University and earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She completed her anesthesiology residency and served as chief resident at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Since 2011, Dr. Jones has been an examiner as well as a member of the OSCE Committee for the APPLIED Exam administered by the ABA. Most recently, she has served as a committee chair for the American Society of Anesthesiologists and as President of the Society for Education in Anesthesia. In addition, she is the Editor-in-Chief for the UpToDate Anesthesiology and co-editor of the 8th edition of Stoelting’s Anesthesia and Co-Existing Disease.

Hoda Badr, Ph.D., is a health psychologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also a Leader of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine.  

She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Houston in Social Psychology, with a concentration in health and personal relationships. She completed her Postdoctoral fellowship in Psycho-Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Badr’s research mission has focused on the development and evaluation of interventions that assist patients and family members to cope with the symptoms and psychological demands of cancer and its treatment. 

Dr. Badr will begin the role of public member director when the current public member, Margaret Pisacano, B.S.N., J.D., completes her final term at the end of the fall 2023 board meeting.
