ABA Elects Tin-Na Kan, MD, to Board of Directors

We are pleased to announce the election of Tin-Na Kan, MD, to our Board of Directors. Dr. Kan will officially begin her term as diplomate director following the Fall 2023 Board Meeting.

Dr. Kan has worked as a clinical anesthesiologist and senior partner at The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) in Northern California for the past 16 years. She obtained her medical degree and completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Her clinical interests include ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and team-based medical simulation for patient care improvement.

When not taking care of patients in the operating room, Dr. Kan serves on the Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Council at South San Francisco Kaiser Hospital and as the founder and director of a newly established TPMG Perioperative Simulation Program. Outside of medicine, Dr. Kan enjoys rock climbing, horseback riding and reading science fiction.

Dr. Kan exemplifies a desire to improve patient care by closing gaps and improving relationships between departments and professions in medicine. Her background and experiences in forging her own space for education in private practice provide a foundation to continue this work.

Dr. Kan has been actively involved with the ABA, serving as an examiner since 2011. Her background as a private practice clinician contributes a unique and important perspective. With the election of Dr. Kan, the ABA Board of Directors is complete with 12 diplomate directors and one public member.

We look forward to welcoming Dr. Tin-Na Kan as our newest diplomate director this fall.
