“Having a board certification is important, not only for your credibility, but also the confidence you have as an anesthesiologist. I know I have all the tools necessary to approach any type of surgery, patient or scenario.”

I am currently a board-certified anesthesiologist in Los Angeles; before that, working in Pennsylvania and Minnesota. I’ve been board certified for about four years. I graduated residency about six years ago.

Why do you value board certification?
I value board certification because I believe that having a merit-based system is able to ensure all the anesthesiologists reach the same knowledge level that allows them to provide exceptional care to patients. It’s imperative to be board certified as medicine is a giant, ever-changing field with many new ramifications from new medications to new surgeries. You want all anesthesiologists to have that same baseline of knowledge.

Having a board certification is important, not only for your credibility, but also the confidence you have as an anesthesiologist. I know I have all the tools necessary to approach any type of surgery, patient or scenario. As anesthesiologists, we pride ourselves to be emergency experts, especially in the perioperative realm.

Why did you choose to pursue anesthesiology?
Anesthesiology has been a passion of mine since I was a medical student because anesthesiologists get to work with all physicians across the hospital. Anesthesiologists maintain a level demeanor under stress, which help to keep the entire operating room calm. Ninety-nine percent of the time you are meeting people on the worst day of their life and you are getting them through surgery. It’s all encompassing.
