ABA Elects New 2024-25 Board Officers
We are pleased to announce the elections of President Alex Macario, M.D., MBA, and Secretary John Fiadjoe, M.D. Both directors began their roles following the fall 2024 Board of Directors meeting.
Dr. Macario is a professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine, and, by courtesy, health research and policy at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He also serves as vice-chair for Education and program director for the Anesthesia Residency. He is a member of the Anesthesiology Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. His research career has been dedicated to the economics of health care, particularly costs, quality and outcomes for patients having surgery and anesthesia. Dr. Macario most recently served as secretary for the ABA Board of Directors.
Dr. Fiadjoe serves as associate chair of anesthesiology, critical care and pain medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He has held major leadership roles with multiple national organizations and is currently the secretary and treasurer for the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia’s board of directors. Dr. Fiadjoe’s research interests have focused on the difficult airway, craniofacial anesthesia, and anesthesia-related outcomes. He has served as a founding member and chair of the Pediatric Difficult Intubation International Collaborative, as a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Difficult Airway Task Force, and as the leader of multiple difficult airway workshops associated with national and international meetings.
The Board of Directors reelected Stacie G. Deiner, M.D., as vice president and Mark T. Keegan, M.B., B.Ch., as treasurer.
