ABA Hosts Bi-Annual Program Director Meeting

We hosted our bi-annual Anesthesiology Program Director meeting where we guided Program Directors through notable examination updates, how to best prepare residents for the OSCEs and the latest policies. Anesthesiology Program Directors gathered in Raleigh and virtually February 15 and 22 and were hosted by ABA Directors Mohammed M. Minhaj, M.D., MBA and Vivek K. Moitra, M.D., and Chief Assessment Officer Ann Harman, Ph.D.

The meeting commenced with a tour of the AIME Center for on-site participants, followed by a warm welcome, introductions and an overview of the agenda. Key topics discussed included the 2024 Written Examination Results, covering the In-Training Examination (ITE), BASIC Examination and ADVANCED Examination.

A significant portion of the meeting focused on the 2024 APPLIED Examination Results, including the Standard Oral Examination (SOE) and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Program Directors were provided with strategies to better prepare their residents for the OSCEs, emphasizing abdominal and gastric views in the AOU station, management of difficult airways and teamwork skills.

Policy-related discussions were also a highlight. For a list of all changes to the 2025 Policy Book, click here. The most up-to-date version of our policy book can be found at any time on our website.

The meeting concluded with an opportunity for connection and networking over lunch, allowing Program Directors to share experiences and insights. Program Directors play an indelible role in preparing residents for board certification and ushering the next generation of anesthesiologists.
