About
Setting standards and leading innovation for the practice of anesthesiology since 1938
The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) team engaged with hundreds of anesthesiologists, residents and medical students during the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting, ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2025, held Oct. 10-14 at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio. As the ABA’s most attended in-person engagement each year, ANESTHESIOLOGY® provides an opportunity to share the latest advancements in our assessments, continuing certification and our research initiatives. In an era where digital engagement dominates how we answer questions and manage certifications, this in-person event allows our teams to connect directly with the anesthesiologists who inspire and drive our mission forward.
Members of our Physician Engagement and Credentialing Services customer service teams reviewed diplomates’ progress in their ABA GO portals and answered personalized questions regarding initial and continuing certification. Many board-certified anesthesiologists utilize this interaction as an opportunity to review their progress report in ABA GO and ensure they are staying up to date with their annual requirements, including answering MOCA Minute questions.
“Those in-person moments give us a better understanding of our diplomates’ needs and experiences and help strengthen the relationships that make our work meaningful,” said Team Lead of Physician Engagement Specialists Lynn Owens. “We are honored to be able to provide high-quality customer service every day, and it’s great to hear directly from our diplomates about how they feel supported.”
Residents visiting the booth also received our newly released resident booklet, a crucial resource designed with insights from the ABA’s Resident Advisory Group to support those in their journey to board certification. If you were unable to pick one up during the annual meeting, you can find similar resources on our new resident webpage.
While onsite, ABA Executive Director Michele Pore, MBA, CAE, and Board Director Vivek K. Moitra, M.D., presented the session “Creating a Wider Door: The ABA’s AEP Program for IMG,” which explored the Alternate Entry Pathway (AEP). This program allows internationally trained and certified anesthesiologists practicing in the United States who have proven excellence in clinical care a path to attain ABA board certification.
The session reinforced the ABA’s commitment to ensuring that qualified anesthesiologists from all backgrounds have a pathway to certification that reflects their expertise, dedication and alignment with the highest standards of the specialty. Learn more about the AEP program and hear from current pathway participants here.
As always, our limited-edition ABA socks were a hit. Our team handed out hundreds of pairs of resident and board-certified anesthesiologist socks, continuing a popular annual tradition.
