ABA Receives ISACC’s David Swankin Continuing Competence Award

Raleigh, N.C. (Nov. 25, 2025) – The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is honored to share that the organization has received the David Swankin Continuing Competence Award from the International Society for the Advancement of Continuing Competence (ISACC). This recognition highlights the impact of MOCA Minute®, the ABA’s longitudinal assessment program and its role in advancing continuing competence across the credentialing community. Chief Assessment Officer Ann Harman, Ph.D., accepted the award on behalf of the ABA during the Institute for Credentialing Excellence Exchange conference in November.

Nearly a decade ago, the ABA launched MOCA Minute with the goal of supporting anesthesiologists in keeping pace with rapidly evolving medical knowledge while reducing the burden of traditional, high-stakes exams. Today, MOCA Minute is used by thousands of diplomates every year and has become a model adopted by many other healthcare credentialing organizations.

“On behalf of the ABA, I want to thank ISACC for this distinguished award,” Harman shared in her remarks. “It’s a great honor to be recognized for something that has been an important milestone for the ABA and so meaningful to the anesthesiologists we serve. MOCA Minute has not only been a model for other certifying boards but is now a standard within the medical specialty certification community.”

The success of MOCA Minute reflects the dedication of ABA volunteers, board directors and staff. Our board-certified anesthesiologist volunteers continue to write and refine questions grounded in current clinical practice. Our board directors provide the vision that keeps the program evolving. Our staff supports every aspect of the work from psychometric rigor and research to technology development and customer service.

The ABA remains focused on continuously exploring new ways to enhance the program. Ongoing research, collaborations and technology improvements aim to ensure MOCA Minute continues to provide value to diplomates and uphold the highest standards of anesthesiology.

“We sincerely appreciate ISACC’s recognition of our team’s innovative work with this prestigious award,” Harman said.
