The ABA is pleased to introduce eight new members to its Resident Advisory Group, which seeks to elevate resident voices and strengthen engagement across the anesthesiology community. This effort reflects our commitment to connect with trainees early and build career-long relationships with anesthesiologists beginning in residency, as outlined in our Strategic Plan. Group members provide direct insights into the challenges residents and their programs face, as well as the evolving landscape of anesthesiology training.
Eight members of the inaugural Resident Advisory Group are completing their residency, and their positions will be filled by new, incoming members.
The newest members, representing a diverse array of programs, geographic regions and clinical experiences, include:

Over the next year, these members will collaborate with ABA staff in periodic virtual meetings and across special projects to inform future resident-focused communications, resources and outreach. The advisory group helps the ABA understand residents’ experiences and changing communication needs, and to gather trainees’ input in the exploration of formative assessment tools. Members’ contributions help guide engagement efforts, providing critical feedback on initiatives that affect residents throughout training.
Abigail Schirmer, M.D., an inaugural member, recently reflected on the group’s first year of impact, from developing resident-facing resources to contributing to the ASA Annual Meeting and co-developing a new formative assessment tool that the ABA will pilot this fall. Read her full piece here.
