About
Setting standards and leading innovation for the practice of anesthesiology since 1938
The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) connected and celebrated with the anesthesiology community at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting, ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2026, Oct. 16-20 in San Diego.
As the ABA’s largest in-person engagement opportunity each year, the meeting gives our team a valuable chance to connect face-to-face with hundreds of anesthesiologists, residents and medical students.
During the annual meeting, ABA Board Secretary John Fiadjoe, M.D., MBA, and Board Treasurer Vivek K. Moitra, M.D., presented “The ABA: Not Just Exams: License Actions, Research, Assessment Innovation and Much More.” This session offered an inside look at the breadth of the ABA’s work beyond exams, including research and assessment innovation, credentialing case reviews and how state licensure actions can affect certification. Learn more about the unseen sides of certification here.
This year, we also celebrated the 10th anniversary of MOCA Minute. Together, we marked a decade of longitudinal assessment in continuing certification with coffee and anniversary-themed giveaways. MOCA Minute’s 10-year impact reaches beyond the specialty, but at ASA, we zoomed in on what the decade has looked like for individual board-certified anesthesiologists by inviting attendees to reflect on how MOCA Minute has transformed their continuing certification. We are grateful to everyone who stopped by, joined the conversation, shared their perspectives on MOCA Minute’s 10-year impact and celebrated with us.
At the booth, attendees could pick up resources tailored to where they are in their certification journey, including the ABA Resident Brochure and MOCA informational materials. Developed in collaboration with our Resident Advisory Group, the Resident Brochure is a comprehensive resource that supports residents in their journey with board certification. Residents who were unable to secure a copy at the meeting can access digital resources on our resident webpage.
And, of course, no visit to the ABA booth would be complete without socks. Whether this was your first year collecting ABA socks or you’ve added a new pair to your collection, we appreciated the opportunity to engage with you and answer questions.
Thank you to everyone who attended our booth and engaged with our team. It is a privilege to connect in person each year with anesthesiologists, residents and medical students whose commitment to the gold standard of care inspires and embodies our mission.

We look forward to seeing you next year at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2027 in Boston. Those who didn’t have the chance to connect with our team may contact us with any questions and explore certification resources at theaba.org.
