Directors-Elect Officially Join ABA Board of Directors

We are pleased to announce that Hoda Badr, Ph.D., and Tin-Na Kan, M.D., following the fall 2023 Board Meeting, have officially begun their terms on the ABA Board of Directors.

Dr. Badr is a health psychologist and associate professor in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also a leader of the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Houston in Social Psychology, with a concentration in health and personal relationships. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Psycho-Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Badr’s research mission has focused on the development and evaluation of interventions that assist patients and family members to cope with the symptoms and psychological demands of cancer and its treatment. Her experiences and expertise provides immense value to the Board of the Directors as the singular public board member.

Dr. Kan has worked as a clinical anesthesiologist and senior partner at The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) in Northern California for the past 16 years. She obtained her medical degree and completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Her clinical interests include ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and team-based medical simulation for patient care improvement. As a private practice clinician, Dr. Kan contributes a unique and important perspective to the Board of Directors.

Outside of caring for patients in the operating room, Dr. Kan serves on the Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Council at South San Francisco Kaiser Hospital and as the founder and director of a newly established TPMG Perioperative Simulation Program. Dr. Kan exemplifies a desire to improve patient care by closing gaps and improving relationships between departments and professions in medicine. Her background and experiences in forging her own space for education in private practice provide a foundation to continue this work. She has been actively involved with the ABA, serving as an examiner since 2011.

We sincerely thank Margaret Pisacano, BSN, J.D., CPHRM, for her service on the Board of Directors. We are grateful for her dedication to our mission for the duration of her tenure, which concluded following the fall 2023 board meeting Oct. 1.
