ABA Connects with Physicians at ANESTHESIOLOGY© 2023

Our staff and directors connected with board-certified anesthesiologists and residents Oct. 13-17 at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA)’s annual meeting, ANESTHESIOLOGY© 2023, in San Francisco, where they shared updates regarding initial and continuing certification. You can learn more about the importance of our presence and attendance at ANESTHESIOLOGY 2023 in the video linked here.

ABA Secretary Alex Macario, M.D., MBA, and Board Director Mohammed Minhaj, M.D., MBA, hosted two mini-theater presentations in the Resource Center. The first session was entitled “Keeping Up With Your Continuing Certification – The Latest from the ABA” and focused on answering questions regarding MOCA requirements and new ABMS Standards for Continuing Certification, which includes the transition from a ten-year MOCA cycle to a five-year MOCA cycle. Session slides are available for review here.

The second session focused on engaging residents and answering questions from medical students regarding their journey to board certification. Drs. Minhaj and Macario shared what residents can expect during the initial certification process, how we support board-certified anesthesiologists throughout their careers and the innovative ways we help anesthesiologists remain current in the knowledge of the practice. The slides from “Journey to Board Certification” are available here.

Our Physician Engagement Specialists were onsite to answer questions and talk with attendees about board certification and MOCA requirements. We released two new sock designs available for board-certified physicians, as well as a sock designed specifically for residents and fellows. Throughout the meeting, we handed out over 500 socks and 250 board-certified anesthesiologist pins.

While attending the meeting, Dr. Macario was a guest on the ASA’s Residents in a Room podcast, where he discussed the maintenance of certification with residents. The podcast is available for listening here.

We look forward to attending ANESTHESIOLOGY© 2024 and additional opportunities to connect with physicians in the future.
